No More Stolen Amazon Packages at Your Front Door in 2022
**Our honesty policy: This post may contain affiliate links and I may be compensated if you make a purchase at no extra cost to you. Some are, some aren't--I do some comparison shopping. Ever had the notification come across that your much anticipated package arrived, but upon getting home, it is missing?
The desperate looking around…
Your heartbeat speeds up…
Then you start getting angry…
Stolen Amazon packages right on your door step is a terrible thing and completely ruins the rest of the night–and beyond!
Free shipping to your doorstep is worth something. No trip to the store–a savings of time, gas and wear and tear on your car. With that line of thinking, the larger and heavier the item, the more convenient it is! But larger items are harder to stash if you are not home when a package is delivered.
Well, if you have an enclosed garage door, there is a solution to stolen Amazon packages at your front door: MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener (Chamberlain MYQ-G0301) + Amazon Cloud Cam | Key Smart Garage Kit (Key In-Garage Delivery Eligible)
I stumbled upon this early release 2019 Prime Day bundle, and in light of the home surveillance posts I’ve published recently, thought this was a fantastic idea–and deal. Definitely too good not to share!
How the bundle works to prevent stolen front door Amazon packages:
Amazon is pairing a MyQ Chamberlain garage door opener and an Amazon Cloud Cam (Key Edition). These two devices work together, allowing and Amazon delivery person to drop a package within the safe confines of your garage door. Amazon has a special electronic key that allows access to the selected delivery individual, opening the garage door, delivering the package on camera, and closing the door behind them.
The one gotcha: you have to live within an in-garage delivery coverage area for Amazon. There is a link in the bundle listing so you can verify if you are within the service area.
The Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener:
As with the other smart garage door openers, this MyQ Chamberlain garage door opener will send you notifications when the door moves in either direction.
You also have the ability to close or open the door with your smartphone. For instance, if you tap on the garage door icon below the door will open.
You can also get a historical view of the past garage door events:
The history of garage door happenings…no judging the garage door usage dates. I don’t drive much. ;-)You may have noticed you can also name your garage door. Blaa is Danish for ‘blue’–the color of the garage door opener. Definitely named prior to a blog.
The Amazon Cloud Cam (Key Edition) Indoor Security Camera:
The Amazon Cloud Cam also works as most security cameras do with live video and motion detection playback in short spurts.
Another alternative: The Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener and a Wyze Cam
There are some critical reviews on the Amazon Cloud Cam being somewhat glitchy or low-quality video. Like I said on my Wyze Cam security system setup post, I’ve backed up my video doorbell with a Wyze Cam. A ~$30 bundle Wyze Cam and 32 GB Kingston micro SD is a good backup if you are really concerned with visibility or playback.
And as I also shared, I’m not a fan of subscriptions. However, even without an Amazon Cloud subscription, the Amazon Cloud security camera will still save video after twenty-four hours without buying a cloud cam subscription. That’s long enough for the vast majority of us who go to work daily and come home to our packages at the front door.
I’ve been EXTREMELY happy with my Wyze Cams and since the Chamberlain MyQ works with Amazon Key, this combo seems like an excellent deal as well.
Do you already have a Chamberlain garage door opener?
I do! I was delighted to discover I already have this capability!!!* I want to say the garage door / opener is at least five years old. YMMV.
Maybe you can surprise yourself too!
If you’ve stumbled upon this post after having a package stolen on your front porch, you have my sympathy. It truly sucks.
If you haven’t had a stolen package, but you’ve heard it happen to your neighbors, maybe it is a preventative solution. Share it with your unfortunate neighbors too!
Now if we could get UPS, FedEx and USPS on board…
*So it turns out I’m already set up from the app upgrades including the Amazon Key and replacing my inside Wyze Cams with Wyze Pan Cams. Now one can sit out in the garage waiting for deliveries!
