This is a great quality to have in a tool when your two year old wants to help you clean up after a shower. A indestructible, soft, bouncing squeegee is a must when you want to encourage her to clean up after herself. Second, her nap is better used for a nap for yourself than taking a shower because you are unwilling to have a battle over the squeegee.

A unibody-one piece only squeegee.

A pure silicone squeegee will last much longer than 2+ pieced together squeegees.

The first squeegee I owned had a really nice stainless handle along with a stainless piece that held the silicone edge for wiping down the tile. I’ll admit to buying it based on looks–the stainless matched with the fixtures and the look of the bathroom.

Much to my dismay after some time the silicone blade separated from the stainless holder. I had to keep putting a silicone back in the metal piece in order to keep using it.

I finally got fed up between the extra step of piecing it together and at the first signs of rust on the metal.  The search for a better constructed kind of squeegee was on!

That’s when I found the Casabella Clip-On Silicone Squeegee. It is pure silicone with no separate parts.

I bought two. One is for my bathtub surround and another for my new walk-in shower. At ten inches wide they are smaller than my last squeegee, but everything else about the squeegee more than makes up for the missing inch or two as compared to the broken squeegee. I have now used them for years–at least six as of this update. Both of these bathroom squeegees are still going strong.

Shorter handle length.

Some squeegees (like the first one I mentioned above) are a metal cylinder with a silicone blade attached on one end. This squeegee is grippy, soft, and fits nicely in your hand. It curves in and out just as your fingers do on your hand.

I also chose the Casabella Squeegee since it can hook onto the top of the wand setup in the shower. I’m not a fan of the suction cup hooks. When you are in a steamy shower everything gets covered in condensation. EVERYTHING. Putting up a suction cup holder asks for a suction cup size circle to form.

Maybe you are like me and know yourself well enough to know you are not taking it off very often. In this case, a suction cup holder is a bad option. The flexible silicone handle that can hook on to different plumbing fixtures seems like a cleaner option. There is not going to be build up wherever you hang it if you also wipe down the squeegee before putting it away. Second, if you use the squeegee every time you are in the shower it is not permanently sitting there like a suction cup.

Towel your squeegee off before storing it for the next use. Placing it on top of a shower wand holder or on the shower head extension from the wall are both great out of the way places for this squeegee.

These two locations prevent a hard water stain from appearing on the wall after toweling it off. Notice the squeegee is not in contact with the wall at all!

If, instead, it is constantly placed against the wall a missed water droplet can make it’s way to the squeegee. If this happens repeatedly over time  it can leave a water stain.

Even if you decide against this particular squeegee, the big takeaway from this post is to consider a pure silicone squeegee based on how long they last as well as safety to your bathroom when the squeegee is dropped.

Why else do you need the best shower squeegee?

Take a look at the following picture. Do you see what I see?

A humble squeegee. A squeegee is certainly not the most attractive thing you see in this shower. However, it’s not about looks–it’s what it does and what it signifies.

If you have ever had a glass wall in your bathroom you know what it takes in order to keep the hard water stains off. It’s a labor of love to either wipe it down after every shower or take a straight edge blade every few months, years, or so to clean it off.

The same treatment could be said for the tile. You either clean it off lovingly after every use, use your stone or tile cleaning solution bi-weekly, or you pay the hefty price later when you’re having to clean the hard water and soap scum stains from your hair and body products.

The enemy: hard water.

The best shower squeegee is your ally in fighting the long-term damage. With 30 seconds of use after every shower not only are you cleaning your bathroom, making it look showtime ready all the time, but you are also getting a chance to admire the work you or someone else did while installing the shower or tub surround.

I certainly enjoy every time I use my squeegee. Of course, since this is a DIY blog I installed the tile myself and I admire the work I did years ago. I also curse the little mistakes that I wish I could do over again. Perfection and mistakes all are cleaned though!

I’m not the only one. My parents set up staying at a glamorous vacation rental in a high-end neighborhood with family members on the weekend of my wedding. All of us ladies prepared our hair and makeup in the bathroom overlooking Red Mountain. It certainly set the tone for the day.

While I didn’t take a shower, I couldn’t help but notice the squeegee placed in the master bathroom shower. It’s one of those things you certainly notice when you have a squeegee or two yourself. It also makes you think twice about your own cleaning habits at home if you have not encountered one before.

A well placed squeegee definitely gives off the feeling the owners of this house truly care about their property. The shower was made up of 16” or 18” brown porcelain tile. It wasn’t like it was super fancy. However, with a squeegee there it called out for a wipe down after each use. I would have been more than happy to comply if I had taken a turn in the shower.

Squeegee technique matters too.

Up your squeegee skills by thinking about where the water should go. Rather than a straight pull down angle the squeegee where the water should go into the tub. As you wipe a wall down angle the squeegee down towards where the next squeegee wipe will go. This keeps the water moving along the direction you are headed.

This same technique is especially important on a tub surround where the wrong direction pours water outside the bathtub.

Also take a little flick of the wrist to pour the shedded water into the bathtub rather than pooling at the bottom of the tile.

You’ll still need to towel off on and around the fixtures, but it is only a small space.
