2019 DIY New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions. The same ones come up every year. Lose weight. Save more. Make some improvements around the house.
Which one of those solves all three at the same time, if you are a DIY’er? 😉
We’ve already established DIY helps you lose weight and gain muscle. You definitely save on labor when you do the work yourself*. Improvements around the house are normally a decent investment in your lifestyle as opposed to another game system, shopping spree, etc.
Last year in review:
Last year the only major thing we did on our primary home was add another little person to our family. With this addition came more gear and supplies that go along with growing two little people.
My husband started in earnest on the rebuild of my aunt’s house, post Harvey, in Texas and is almost past the plumbing and electrical phase.
We had an all out website redesign for our water damage remediation company in League City, TX: R & R Property Rehab.
Of minor, but important to our health, my husband plunged headlong into a days long journey into the decrepit innards of our dishwasher (a public service blog post to come). This was an investment in our well being. It’s scary what you can find in there…
We also planted a Tarocco blood orange tree in the backyard. Fresh vitamin C, and a lot of muscle getting it out of the car (even with an engine lift assist).
2019 DIY New Year’s Resolutions:
No new additions to the family.
In fact, our goal is to reverse the trend going on in our house. Right now, we are going through a major purge to get rid of as many items we do not use or love as possible. Every week the garbage can outside will be full, donations are going to local charities and there are two loads scheduled to go to Sweet Repeats, a gem of a consignment shop.
No picture proof here–the house looks that bad–but stuff is moving OUT. Craigslist ads are online with more “stuff to get stored/returned back to Craigslist” in the works. The first item was picked up last weekend.
We have a couple potentially huge projects in the coming months. We are looking forward to sharing more, once plans firm up. If it all works out as planned there will be lots and lots of new material for blog posts!
2019 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting years yet! How about you?
*It might be a wash though if you put the money saved into upgrades instead. Even so, it is better than having paid for labor AND the upgrades.
2019 goal: put a bathroom in the basement.
Also…it looks like someone needs to use their dishwasher more often! 😉
Or clean it!
Um, that’s an orange tree in the trunk?? ;-p
It is! Next time we’d recommend putting a few 2 x 4’s in there to help make getting it out easier.
